Week 6: Treadmill

It was extremely nice of Ms. Baker to donate a treadmill to our project. We are so thankful for that because now we do not have to purchase a treadmill or a motor. We are going to use the motor from the treadmill and attach it to our bicycle. Also, we cleaned the exercise bicycle and made it look brand new, well mostly. We also took apart the exercise bicycle to see how it works and how we will attach the motor.

Week 2: Continuation of the Plan

We are still trying to determine if we want to use a regular bicycle or an exercise bicycle. While it will be easier to bring in our own bicycle, it will be much harder to complete the bicycle generator. This will require us to build a wood frame. On the other hand, if we use an exercise bicycle we will be saving weeks of stress of trying to build a support system for the bicycle. The exercise bicycle also comes with a motor. The only challenge is trying to find an exercise bicycle. Also, we are hopefully going to use a DC motor instead of an AC motor since a DC motor is most likely what powers an exercise bicycle. We will post more updates as our plan becomes more finalized. Week 13: Motor On

Last week, we finally were able to mount the motor to the bicycle. We even pedaled on the bicycle to make sure that it worked... it did! We are very happy. All we have left to do now is attach the battery to the motor so when we pedal, we can charge the battery.

Week 12: Official Final Plan

We have the 24 volt motor. This will simply be placed in front of the big wheel. The big wheel will spin thus spinning the small part on the motor, generating the power. We will get this done in the three engineering classes we have this week. We are very behind but would like to complete this project perfectly. This will be successful for future classes to use and learn from.
